DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, June 29th\, a free online talk will be given by Justin Davies\, co-founder of the Jordaens Van Dyck Panel Paintings Project. The event is organized by the Institute of Conservation in London. \nThe talk will focus on the paintings examined by the project\, the findings and their importance for art historians\, conservators and others involved in cultural heritage preservation. The talk will also highlight how to consult the new and permanent resources that are published by the project. \n‘Discoveries related to panel paintings made by the Jordaens Van Dyck Panel Paintings Project 2016–22’ \n29 June 2022 – 7pm – 8.30pm (GMT+1)\nAttendance is free\, but advance registration is required.

DESCRIPTION:An Exhibition of Art and Sculpture at West Horsley Place\nJune 15th to 20th \nWelcome to an exciting exhibition of contemporary paintings\, ceramics and glass sculptures at the beautifully renovated Place Farm Barn in the grounds of historic West Horsley Place. Join us from 15th to 20th June 11am – 5pm (until 6.30pm on the 16th\, 17th\, 18th June)  to view art in the Barn and sculptures in the Courtyard. \nCurated by Liz Hauck\, abstract painter and Adam Aaronson glass maker the exhibition features work by a further sixteen Surrey artists. \nWe are supporting ‘West Horsley Place Trust’ (www.westhorsleyplace.org) to fundraise ongoing restoration of the manor house and the vision of the Trust to create a centre for the arts in Surrey. Entry to the exhibition is free but we would like to suggest a donation of £5 to go towards this.  \nThis event is part of Surrey Artists Open Studios 2022 – see Studio 166 – and is the first Open Studios event to be held at West Horsley Place. SUMMARY:Richard Aina will be presenting his work online - that won him the this year's RIBA President's Dissertation Medal at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Architectural Association.
DESCRIPTION:The thesis initially explores how and why West African objects of particular tribes were crafted\, within their respective contexts and the various infrastructures that have existed; and persist in allowing these sacred objects to find themselves dissociated from their socioreligious premise. \nThe second part of the thesis is in response to the first and current paradigm that has been triggered since President Macron’s seminal speech at the University of Ouagadougou in 2017 – in which he vowed that France would begin to return West African objects of antiquity that are in their possession. Located in traditional Lobi land\, The VESSEL is introduced as a traditionally infused contemporary vernacular architecture for the LOBI peoples that rehouses and spiritually rehabilitates their BATEBA figures of antiquity.
