James Denison-Pender has been engraving on glass since 1967.

He left the computer industry in 1973 to make engraving his full-time career. He was a founding member of the Guild of Glass Engravers and was elected a Fellow in 1980.

His specialist technique is stipple engraving, the art of creating pictures made up of tiny dots scratched on the surface with a tungsten carbide point. For his larger pieces, he combines this with drill engraving with diamond and carborundum burrs.

His work makes great use of the transparency of glass, working on the inside and outside surfaces of goblets or combing engraving on several surfaces of flat glass to create a magical three-dimensional effect.
